FOR WHOM AMESTY TOLLS

Fines, deportation, back taxes, etc. Absolutely! But let’s implement those punishments on the groups responsible for the chaotic immigration mess of the last twenty years. Corrupt companies, incompetent governmental agencies and gutless politicians are the real culprits. There must be a “Botany Bay” where these characters can be exiled.

A few statements before pontificating.

1. The United States is not a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of Laws that allows legal immigration. There is a big difference between the two concepts. One states a core value of our country, the other a trendy statement that comes from those trying to justify illegal activity.

2. Nothing is as ineffective and counterproductive as the federal government when intervening in the free market system.

3. No debate has birthed more blatant lies than immigration.

“The jobs that Americans won’t do” Not only is that statement completely false, it is an insult to legal Americans and our economic foundation. The U.S. is a capitalistic society where supply and demand of the legal labor pool dictates what workers get paid. The villains in this case are not the illegal aliens but the companies that have hired them along with ineffective federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Are we to condone this “welfare subsidy” to these companies and reward incompetent government officials by granting them more responsibility? It’s as if there is a giant help wanted billboard on our southern border inviting foreigners to work here illegally. Our current approach makes it easy for people with no skills to come here and difficult for those with highly needed skills (math, science, etc) because they follow the law. Only in Washington could upside down logic like this exist.

Bluntly put, corrupt companies and incompetent government officials along with politicians have hoisted the largest outsourcing of American jobs over the last two decades. Millions of jobs going to illegal aliens that would have gone to American citizens at higher wages. Please don’t counter with the second biggest lie (The economy will collapse) Those companies that can’t compete by following the law can go out of business or find a different scam to pull on the American public. In essence, those companies that employ illegal aliens are nothing more than modern day plantations ( Can anyone say” Tara”) Only Scarlett is missing. Let this sink in before dismissing as hyperbole.

One of the worst consequences about the immigration bill is the thousands of mindless Government jobs that would be added to “enforce” all the proposed rules. As Milton Friedman so eloquently observed when describing Government projects “when a private enterprise fails, it is closed down; when a government enterprise fails, it is expanded”

So what’s the solution?

Build the fence. We can’t regulate immigration if we can’t control it.

Enforce the existing law and severely punish those executives that run the companies hiring illegals. Very stiff fines and jail time should do it. Also highlight their pictures in the paper and Internet. Eliminate the source of illegal activity and the problem will be solved.

Fire all top government officials in the “sanctuary” cities.

Do not expand the Government’s role in fixing immigration.

Immediately deport all illegal aliens with a criminal record.

My anger is not with the Mexican people crossing the border escaping a corrupt and impoverished country. I would be doing the same, especially if encouraged by hiring companies and government officials in the United States. Therefore, I would give a 60 day grace period to “come clean” before implementing steps 2 and 3. The focus should be on the source of the problem (the company), not the result. (Illegal alien).

Those that identify themselves and don’t have a criminal record can stay. Stop the nonsense about back taxes, etc. Let the companies that hired them pay it. A fine of 10% of their sales for the last five years should do the trick.

In summary, this whole issue is not about immigration---it is about following the laws of our land. Unethical people will always for reasons of power and money break the law. Honest Americans don’t have to reward their bad behavior.
